Denver Broncos Draft Talk: Top Three Positions of Need

Now that the frenzy of free agency is over, teams are starting to focus on the 2019 NFL Draft. The event will take place over three days, April 25-27 in Nashville, TN. While there may be a straggler or two that come in through free agency, the focus now truly shifts to the rookies. For the Denver Broncos, they filled some bigger needs through free agency. Now it is time to use the draft to add some depth. Here we look at their three biggest needs and whom they might be looking at.

The Denver Broncos did not re-sign one of their top players from 2018 in Brandon Marshall. Thus, the inside backer position becomes a necessity in this draft. While this draft is deep on defense, it may not be so much on the inside backer spot. However, there are a couple of players that could fit the Vic Fangio style of defense.

With having the 10th overall pick in the draft, the Broncos could look at LB Devin White out of LSU. He fits the bill for the position. He has great speed and agility to cover TEs. That is something that hurt Denver in 2018.

Offensive Line

The Broncos have had some struggles up front over the past several seasons. Making offensive line a priority should be high on GM John Elway’s list. Two years ago, the Denver Broncos selected Garett Bolles. In 2019, Elway should once again make an o-line selection in the top two rounds. Especially inside.

Cody Ford out of Oklahoma could be available to the Broncos in round two. While he was a tackle in college, moving him to guard may be a better bet for him to make it in the pro game. He struggles a bit in pass protection and moving him inside would give him help in the passing game.

Another name to keep your eye on is Garrett Bradbury. He is a center out of North Carolina State.

Defensive Line

Adding depth to the d-line is key for the Broncos this draft. Fangio likes to rotate his players up front. However, in order to do so, he must have depth. The starters are set with Derek Wolfe, Domata Pecko and Adam Gotsis. It is what is behind them that hurts.

I do not see the Broncos addressing this in the first round. That is unless a player like Rashan Gary (Michigan) or Ed Oliver (Houston) falls to them. Then Elway may just be inclined to grab them. Nonetheless, this position is deep in 2019. A player like Dexter Lawrence (Clemson), Jerry Tillery (Notre Dame), or Dre’Mont Jones could be available later.

While many fans would say the Denver Broncos need to go QB that is no longer the case. Joe Flacco will fit the bill for a couple of years. Especially if they get him some protection up front.

I have also seen some mock drafts have the Broncos taking a TE. This is a need but I feel that the Broncos need one of these other positions more.

The Denver Broncos could be a surprise team with the right moves in 2019. Let’s see how they proceed.
