Miami Dolphins: Who Will Play QB in 2019?

Take the first look at the Miami Dolphins quarterback room and it looks horrendous. In the Miami Dolphins history, they have had some good quarterbacks like Bob Griese and Dan Marino. Even Ryan Tannehill looked like he had potential, but he was recently traded to the Tennessee Titans. Now the depth chart is down to two and they need to add to that for a chance at a decent starter. The quarterback position is pretty important and is going to be crucial for success for Miami in 2019. Jake Rudock and Luke Falk are the quarterbacks on the roster. Therefore, let’s take a look at free agency options and NFL Draft options at quarterback for the 2019 season.

Blake Bortles

In a previous article here on IroniqMedia, it has Blake Bortles going to the Miami Dolphins in NFL Free Agency. If the Dolphins organization were to land Bortles they would have a strong-armed QB and the position need would be filled.

At least for a year and then the Miami Dolphins can draft a quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft. If Blake Bortles succeeds with Miami, he could surprise people and be the starter for a couple of years. Hopefully, if the Miami Dolphins don’t land Blake Bortles, they land another option after missing on Tyrod Taylor and Teddy Bridgewater.

A.J. McCarron

After being released by the Oakland Raiders former Alabama National Champion quarterback is looking for a team. The Miami Dolphins would be smart to sign A.J. McCarron and they would have a field general for the 2019 NFL season. McCarron gives the Dolphins a leader at the quarterback position and a proven winner. Given a fair shot to start with the Miami Dolphins, A.J. McCarron could be quite successful this season. If they choose to go in a different style of quarterback play they could go the next route.

Robert Griffin III

The former Heisman winning quarterback is now looking for a new team. He could be a great fit in Miami. Robert Griffin III was great with the Washington Redskins years ago and could rekindle that magic with the Miami Dolphins. They could pull off a successful offensive season with read-option plays led by RG3 and running back Kenyan Drake. The Miami Dolphins would be a force on offense and contenders for second in the AFC East behind New England. All three of these quarterbacks are good options to be the Miami Dolphins QB or they could choose the 2019 NFL Draft route.

NFL Draft Pick Options

Starting with late round talent, possible options are Jarrett Stidham – Auburn, Will Grier – West Virginia, and Ryan Finley – NC State. The only one of the three I see them drafting would be Ryan Finley and he would fit in their system. However, I don’t think, with Finley, they would be successful and it would not last more than two years.

Taking a look at the 1st round talent, possible options are Kyler Murray – Oklahoma, Dwayne Haskins – Ohio State, Drew Lock – Missouri, and Daniel Jones – Duke. Out of these quarterbacks, I don’t think they will trade up to get Murray or Haskins and don’t see them drafting Jones. The only fit is Drew Lock and he seems like the best option and best fit for the Miami Dolphins QB position. Not just for 2019, but also the future.

My Pick: A.J. McCarron and Drew Lock
