NFL Free Agency: Best Fits For Three More Players

The actual NFL Free Agency period has begun and players are jetting off to new teams. Literally in terms of players running back Le’Veon Bell and linebacker C.J. Mosley signed with the New York Jets this offseason. Players are leaving and going to all locations including surprises like Tyrod Taylor to the Los Angeles Chargers. There have been some blockbuster moves like Cleveland landing Odell Beckham Jr. and some questionable ones like Miami letting Cameron Wake leave for Tennessee. Nonetheless, NFL Free Agency is a frenzy and it’s not over yet. Let’s take a look at some of the best fits for three more players.

Jay Ajayi

The former Philadelphia Eagles running back is coming off ACL surgery and recovery. He’s looking for a new team, but may in a surprise sign back with the Eagles. Next week he has a visit scheduled with the Indianapolis Colts to meet with the organization. Not one hundred percent sure, but a team may come in out of nowhere and try to steal this stellar free agent off the market. Here are some possible best fits for him in NFL Free Agency for 2019.

Teams: Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts, and Houston Texans.

My Pick: Indianapolis Colts

Re-signing with the Philadelphia Eagles is a possibility, but I feel like he will look to new scenery. If the Eagles land him back, he could break out with the Philadelphia offense with a healthy Carson Wentz at quarterback. The Houston Texans could use him on their offense with the other running backs Lamar Miller, Alfred Blue, and D’Onta Foreman. If Jay Ajayi is completely healthy he could make his way up the depth chart into possibly a starting role. Ajay I would fit well with Deshaun Watson at quarterback, DeAndre Hopkins at wide receiver, and Will Fuller V at wide receiver on the Texans offense. The Indianapolis Colts looks like his best option or staying with the Eagles. If he goes to the Colts he joins a stacked offense in quarterback Andrew Luck, running back Marlon Mack, tight end Eric Ebron, wide receiver, T.Y. Hilton, and receiver Devin Funchess. They also have some money to spend and lure him in this NFL Free Agency season.

Blake Bortles

The once future of the Jacksonville Jaguars organization is now searching for a home five years later. A lot of talent and potential there, but nothing on teams interested yet. He could really land anywhere from a backup quarterback on a team or a starting role somewhere in the league. Here are some possible landing destinations for Blake Bortles in NFL Free Agency this season.

Teams: Miami Dolphins, Oakland Raiders, and New York Giants.

My Pick: Miami Dolphins

Staying in the state of Florida seems realistic for the former UCF alumni and former Jaguar quarterback. Bortles would be competing for the starting position in Miami along with Brock Osweiler and most likely a rookie quarterback. The Miami Dolphins are in rumors of taking a QB in the 2019 NFL Draft. After the Dolphins already missed out on Tyrod Taylor and Teddy Bridgewater, they need to hit on a free agent quarterback. The Oakland Raiders would pick him up to back up Derek Carr. He would get practice reps and preseason action for 2019, but no starts unless Carr got hurt. The Raiders don’t need that to happen, but Blake Bortles would be an average stand-in for Oakland. The New York Giants would pick him up for backing up Eli Manning and maybe the future. Bortles would be a solid backup, but another factor is that the Giants may draft a QB in the 2019 NFL Draft. Picking up Blake Bortles in NFL Free Agency would add to the competition in the New York Giants quarterback room.

Eric Berry

The Kansas City Chiefs released the nine-year veteran safety and cancer survivor after they signed Tyrann Mathieu. One of the best safeties in the NFL is up for grabs for the 2019 season. With teams still needing safety help, let’s take a look at possible landing spots for Berry in NFL Free Agency.

Teams: Dallas Cowboys, Cincinnati Bengals, and Oakland Raiders.

My Pick: Oakland Raiders

The Dallas Cowboys need safety help and Eric Berry fits what the organization wants. However, I don’t think they lure him in and don’t think he would want to go to Dallas. If they land him the position need is filled for at least three years. Cincinnati is behind in NFL Free Agency and needs to land somebody. The Bengals are going to get torched if they don’t pick up defensive help soon. Eric Berry helps if they land him, but they will need to get more to add with him. A lot of holes on defense and the Cincinnati Bengals need to address a lot of them in the offseason. The Oakland Raiders have the money and momentum in NFL Free Agency to bring him in. The Raiders landed wide receiver Antonio Brown on offense and are landing star guys to help bring in more players. They also have multiple first round picks to fill other defensive holes. Oakland would do well if they land Eric Berry in NFL Free Agency. It would also be the chance at revenge twice a year against his previous team the Kansas City Chiefs.
