Tampa Bay Lightning: A Look Back at the Victory over the Dallas Stars

The Tampa Bay Lightning had come off an earlier victory against the Calgary Flames. The Dallas Stars came to Amalie Arena. The Lightning had seemed to find their groove once again. The offense has been scoring a lot. They had 5 goals against the Florida Panthers and 6 goals against the Calgary Flames. The Lightning had only given up 5 goals combined. They were trying to continue their dominance of the NHL on Thursday night.

The Lightning would do just that. They came out in and scored early in the game. It would be the captain Steven Stamkos scoring. He would score at the 7:19 mark on the power play. It would not take the Lightning very long to score again at the 12:39 mark defenseman Mikhail Sergachev would score. Within 12 seconds later Tyler Johnson would score another goal at the 12:53 mark of the first period. Nikita Kucherov would add another tally at the 14:40 mark and the Lightning would go into the first intermission up 4-0.

The Lightning would come out of the intermission and at the 8:23 mark of the second period Alex Killorn would add another goal. The next Lightning goal would come later in the period at the 16:28 mark this would be Steven Stamkos second goal of the game. While all these goals were being scored the Stars were getting their shots in. The outstanding play of Andrei Vasilevskiy kept the Stars off the scoreboard. In fact, the Lightning would lead 6-0 after 2 periods. Therefore, many say that head coach John Cooper in a way called off the dogs or the Lightning may have scored 8 or more goals.

There would be no goals in the third period scored by either team. Stars former goaltender Ben Bishop was in the building but not in uniform to watch Vasilevskiy tie his franchise record with 17 shutouts. He made great save after great save throughout the game. Thus, this is how the Lightning had played most of the season. They come out and score and score often. The Lightning now will welcome the Montreal Canadians to the Amalie Arena on Saturday night.
