Tampa Bay Lightning: Reviewing the Florida Panthers Game

The atmosphere at the BB&T Center was quiet unless you were a Tampa Bay Lightning fan. The Florida Panthers fan were few and far between. Maybe it was because it was a Sunday evening game or the fact that the Panthers are currently a .500 team. The Lightning is currently and has been the best team in the NHL for a while. The cheers of “Lets Go Lightning” were overtaking the home fans trying to counter cheer. The Panthers coming into this game had taken the lead on the road to winning.

This game the Lightning would take the early lead and never look back. They came in with one plan to use the forecheck. By doing this they controlled the puck. The Panthers had no answer. The Lightning kept them on their toes the whole game. The Panthers and their fans were left stunned.

Tampa Bay as a team had two standout players. Nikita Kucherov who was held to no points the night before had 2 goals. Ryan Callahan who was told after the All-Star break he would be the 13th forward. This means he would have ice time only if an injury occurred. Callahan got his chance as Ondrej Palat left with an injury. He would score the winning goal and his reaction was priceless. Louis Domingue set a franchise record. He has won his last 10 starts and has been a great back-up to Andrei Vasilevskiy.

The Panthers would have one bright moment in this game. Goaltender Roberto Luongo moved into second most all-time for games played as a goaltender. He now only trials Martin Brodeur. The Lightning would go on to a 5-2 victory. With this victory, they swept the season series with the Panthers.
