XFL Rumors: Bob Stoops to Take Control of Dallas Franchise

By now we have all heard of the Alliance of American Football begins play this weekend. If not, you either live under a rock or just do not care. However, did you know that there is another spring league in the works, the XFL? That is right; Vince McMahon Chairman of the WWE is looking to bring his failed league back in 2020. Thus, with the AAF starting, the XFL is trying to grab the spotlight. Rumor is they will name their first head coach on Thursday. He will also be the GM of the Dallas franchise. The name coming out is former Oklahoma Sooners HC, Bob Stoops.

Stoops last coached in 2016. That year he would guide the Sooners to an 11-2 record and a Big 12 Championship. They would go on to face the Auburn Tigers in the Sugar Bowl. A game that they would dominate. Stoops would officially retire from the University of Oklahoma on June 7, 2017.

Stoops has never stepped foot in the professional game. Although there have been many times he was rumored to be wanted, he would stay at Oklahoma. He was quite comfortable in that arena.

Stoops began coaching as a Graduate Assistant at the University of Iowa. From there Iowa would hire him on the staff full-time as an assistant. Stoops would get his first and only head coaching job with the University of Oklahoma in 1999. He would remain through his retirement in 2017.

Bob Stoops Next Chapter

Now it looks as though Bob Stoops will take a dip into another adventure. Several reports are showing that the Dallas franchise will name him the Head Coach and GM. That franchise has yet to receive a name.

The timing of this announcement is interesting. The XFL and AAF are going to be rival leagues in 2020. With the AAF launching this weekend, the XFL may be looking to steal some of the thunder away from the debut. You see, the AAF is coming out strong and seems to be in a better position than the XFL. It will be interesting to see if they can co-exist in 2020.

Look for the Bob Stoops announcement at some point on Thursday. This will be the first of eight coaches in the XFL. The rest of the franchises should name their coaches in the coming weeks.
