AFC Divisional Playoffs: Indianapolis Colts 3 Keys Against Kansas City Chiefs

Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts rolled against the Houston Texans last week and will need to accomplish a few things in the divisional round versus the Kansas City Chiefs to earn a win.

1.) Run Mack Run

Marlon Mack had 148 yards and a score on 24 carries last week and if it wasn’t for Luck the running back would probably be the Colts’ MVP for this season.

The South Florida product has four games of 119 yards or more this season, including a 139-yard rushing performance on Dec. 16.

The more Mack can run effectively against the Chiefs defense the better off Luck will be. The Kansas City Chiefs were 27th against the run during the regular season.

2.) Get Over The Hill

The Indianapolis Colts need to hit Patrick Mahomes and make him uncomfortable in the pocket, but his ability to make plays is crazy good and he might find a way to launch passes at a rapid-fire pace.

However, if Indy can limit receiver Tyreek Hill, then maybe an upset is on the horizon.

In losses to the Chargers and Seattle, Hill only caught eight balls for 120 yards after being targeted 16 times. He also didn’t record a touchdown in either game.

Tight end Travis Kelce hasn’t posted a TD since Dec. 9 versus Baltimore, but his numbers have been consistent over the past month. The 29-year old has been targeted nine times four straight weeks and has a total of 24 catches during that span.

3.) Take Away Time

In all but one of the Colts victories, this season, Indy’s defense has forced a turnover.

The Kansas City Chiefs have only 18 turnovers this season and Mahomes has only two interceptions in the last five weeks and KC only has six fumbles to date.

Indianapolis Colts linebacker Darius Leonard has forced four fumbles in his rookie campaign and cornerback Kenny Moore II has three picks.

It won’t be easy, but the Indianapolis Colts have the ability to knock off the Chiefs. It will just take more of a collective effort on both sides of the ball.
