Baltimore Ravens: Three Keys Against the Los Angeles Chargers

It didn’t look like this day would come this season. However, the Baltimore Ravens won the AFC North on the final day of the regular season and earned themselves a home game in the NFL Wild Card Round. It will be a rematch of a week 16 game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Lamar Jackson has shown why he should be the teams starting quarterback moving forward after Joe Flacco, who is now the team’s second-string option, went down with an injury earlier this season.

These teams already faced off earlier this season. Baltimore won 22-10 against LA on the road during Week 16 to keep its playoff chances alive. Now the team faces another must-win game on Sunday afternoon at home. Check out three keys to victory for the Baltimore Ravens.

Defense Wins Playoff Games

Yes, offense matters, but the Ravens have thrived this season when the defense plays well. When the Ravens’ opponents scored over 30 points this season, Baltimore lost both games. The Ravens defense stepped it up big time the last two weeks and has throughout the season. With a young quarterback under center leading the offense, Baltimore needs the defense to lead the charge on Sunday.

Fast Start

Baltimore has home-field advantage on Sunday. Their fan base is one of the most passionate in the league. The team needs a quick start on Sunday afternoon to keep the fanbase loud and proud. If the Chargers are able to quiet the crowd early on, then Baltimore will need some big plays to get the crowd back into it.

The Ravens know how to beat the Chargers. As mentioned previously, they did it by a twelve-point margin a few weeks ago. Big defensive stops and key offensive plays will have the stadium rocking and keep the home-field advantage in the Ravens’ favor.

Lamar Jackson

Lastly, the Ravens need Lamar Jackson to shine on Sunday. He’ll be the youngest quarterback to start in an NFL playoff game. The stakes couldn’t be higher but he’s faced some big pressure earlier this season after being called upon after Flacco went down. The Ravens’ success against the Chargers depends on how Jackson plays on Sunday.

In the team’s Week 16 win against LA, he threw for one touchdown and a season-high 204 yards. If he can repeat the yardage stat on Sunday, there’s a good chance the team advances to the next playoff round.
