Green Bay Packers: Is Josh McDaniels the Leader to Replace Mike McCarthy?

In what many believe is a surprising move, the Green Bay Packers released Head Coach Mike McCarthy of his duties. This came with four games left in the 2018 NFL Season. Now, as with all openings in the NFL, speculation has begun as to who the Packers will choose to replace him. Reports have surfaced that maybe New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is the leading candidate. Would McDaniels be the right move?

Josh McDaniels has head coaching experience. From 2009 and part of 2010 McDaniels was the head man of the Denver Broncos. During his tenure there he went 11-17 in 28 games. Although, McDaniels had a promising start to his NFL head coaching career. The Broncos won their first six games under McDaniels. However, they faltered in the remaining 10 games, going 2-8.

Since his tenure with the Broncos, Josh McDaniels has been mentioned as a candidate for many openings. He was even thought to be signing a contract with the Indianapolis Colts prior to 2018. He would retract his position and remain with the Patriots. Thus bringing about speculation that he and Pats owner Robert Kraft have an agreement in place on McDaniels future.

Would Josh McDaniels be a good fit for the Green Bay Packers?

McDaniels would be a solid fit for the Green Bay Packers. His offensive mind would be welcomed by the great Aaron Rodgers. He is also still young enough, that he could grow the replacement for Rodgers in the future. After all, one of McDaniels best traits is how he works with QBs.

In fact, this has been a solid trait of the last two head coaches of the Green Bay Packers. Mike Holmgren and Mike McCarthy have both been successful growing QBs in their careers. Why not keep that tradition going? Therefore, adding Josh McDaniels may be the right choice.

No matter what direction the Green Bay Packers go, you can expect it will benefit Aaron Rodgers. Keeping the key to the ignition happy will make the car run better.
