South Carolina Gamecocks: 3 Takeaways From the Win Over Ole Miss

The South Carolina Gamecocks defeated the Ole Miss Rebels 48-44. Jake Bentley threw for 363 yards and two touchdowns. He led the Gamecocks back from a ten-point deficit to get the win.

For Ole Miss, Jordan Ta’amu passed for 379 yards and rushed for 66 more.

The South Carolina Gamecocks are now 5-3 on the year, 4-3 in the SEC. They will travel to Gainesville next Saturday to play the Florida Gators. The game will broadcast at 11 am on ESPN.

TAKEAWAYS FROM WIN OVER OLE MISS

M.A.S.H. UNIT

This will end up being a costly win for the South Carolina Gamecocks. They suffered injuries to RBs Rico Dowdle and Tyson Williams. Carolina was already missing tackle Dennis Daley. Aaron Sterling left with an injury. Reserve safety Javon Charleston was hurt. Multiple others left the game injured. I will update this list later in the week during the Florida preview.

BURN THE DEFENSIVE TAPE

616 yards of total offense. 616!! For a defensive coach like Will Muschamp, this is undoubtedly a game he will want to forget.

However, give the defense credit. In the fourth quarter, with a ton of reserves, they stopped the Rebels offense when it mattered. Ole Miss had 18 yards of offense in the fourth. Tremendous job by the South Carolina defense after such a disastrous start.

PRAISE FOR JAKE & MON

I have been extremely critical of Jake Bentley. However, today, Bentley was tremendous. Bentley was mostly accurate with the football. He also had some drops again today. Granted, the Ole Miss defense isn’t very good. With that said, Bentley made the plays when need be.

Mon Denson came through with the game on the line. After Dowdle and Williams went out, Denson became the bell cow. He ripped off a 69-yard run in the fourth quarter to set up the go-ahead score.
