Cincinnati Bengals: 3 Things Learned From Week 8 Win Over Tampa Bay
The Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 37-34. The Bengals are now 5-3 on the year. Randy Bullock hit the winning field goal at the buzzer. The Cincinnati defense surrendered 596 yards of offense in the win.
For Tampa Bay, Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for 194 yards and two touchdowns in his relief of Winston.
The Bengals have a bye week next week.
THREE THINGS LEARNED FROM WEEK EIGHT WIN/LOSS
YET MORE INJURIES
Every Cincinnati Bengals inactive player this week was injured. No healthy scratches. Then the game started and more injuries happened. Carl Lawson left with a knee injury and never returned. It was reported he tore his ACL. Clint Boling left with a back injury and never returned. Dre Kirkpatrick hurt his Achilles but went back in the game. A.J. Green injured his toe in the fourth quarter.
Cincinnati entered the game with their seventh tight end on the roster this year. They have used seven cornerbacks. At the current pace, I don’t know how sustainable the roster is for the long haul.
THANK YOU JAMEIS
Jameis Winston singlehandedly kept the Cincinnati Bengals in the lead. Winston’s poor pocket presence led to multiple sacks. His four interceptions helped pad the Bengals lead. His last pick, before his benching, was a TD return for Jessie Bates.
Jameis Winston has not improved since his redshirt freshman season at Florida State. He still makes the same mistakes he did in Tallahassee. Tampa Bay will have an interesting decision to make about his future as a Buccaneer.
Joe Mixon ran like a madman in the first half. The second half, not so much. Mixon exploded through the offensive line for several chunk runs. Along with the INTs, Mixon’s runs were the most significant part of the Bengals scoring success in the first half. He, along with Tyler Boyd, were the MVPs for Cincinnati today.
