Los Angeles Chargers: Bradley Roby Would Strengthen Secondary

The NFL Trade Deadline is 10/30/18 at 4 pm EST. That is just roughly 5 days away. Many teams have already been active at the deadline. One team that has been quiet but still may make a move is the Los Angeles Chargers. They need some help in the secondary and at TE. In our continuing series on trade deadline moves, let us look at the one move that the Chargers should make to help themselves down the stretch.

The Chargers rank 15th in pass defense through seven games of the 2018 NFL Season. The losses of Jason Verrett and Jaylen Watkins has put a burden on the defense. While they did acquire Derwin James in the first round of the 2018 Draft, he is safety. In saying that, I think the Los Angeles Chargers should make a move at CB.

There is a lot of talk about the Arizona Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson wanting out. He has since squashed that talk by having a meeting with ownership and recommitting to the team. However, there could be a CB on the block that would help this defense. Especially in nickel situations. That player is Bradley Roby of the Denver Broncos.

Some may say this will never happen because it is within the division. Never say never. Owners and GMs will move players within the division for the right price. The move would not hurt the Broncos either. They have veterans Tremaine Brock and Adam Jones that could slide in Roby’s place.

How does Bradley Roby help the Los Angeles Chargers?

Making this move for the Los Angeles Chargers is affordable. Roby is in the final year of his rookie deal. He is scheduled to be a free agent at the end of the season. He could be a rental for the rest of the year or the Chargers could add him to make the secondary stronger in 2019. Either way, the Chargers secondary would benefit from the addition.

The Los Angeles Chargers may be 5-2 and a game out of first place in the AFC West. That is the best time to make a move. Helping to get your team over the hump are the best moves that GMs can make.
