Riverdale: Is season 3 darker to tease Sabrina?
The CW is no stranger to crossovers. With their long slate of superhero shows, the network has had a long history of spinoffs and crossover shows. All the way back as far as the introduction of Barry Allen into the Arrow-verse, the CW has had a crossover each year. Now it looks like they’ll add another set of mixups to their lineup. With The Chilling Tales of Sabrina, which shares the same universe as the Archie Comic brand, another opportunity has popped up. The only hang up is one will air on Netflix while Riverdale stays on network television on The CW.[RickChitAd]
“Sabrina the Teenage Witch is a comic book series published by Archie Comics about the adventures of a fictional American teenager named Sabrina Spellman. Sabrina was created by writer George Gladir and artist Dan DeCarlo, and first appeared in Archie’s Madhouse #22 (cover-dated Oct. 1962). Storylines of the character at elementary-school-age also appear under the title “Sabrina — That Cute Little Witch” in almost all of the Little Archie comics.”
Cloak in dark mystery already, Riverdale has been murder mystery and even mob family drama from the start. This season we’re getting deeper into the dark. Episode 1 saw the introduction of what looks like the start of a cult organization and episode 2 dove a little deeper.
“After a gruesome discovery is made in the forest, Jughead and Betty team up to investigate; Archie navigates his new surroundings.”
At any given time, Riverdale has 3 separate plots going on. Right now Archie navigating his way through juvenile detention. Elsewhere Veronica is facing off in her war of the worlds with both Cheryl and her father. Not to be totally left out is #teamBughead, Betty and Jughead who have found themselves chasing the cult Alice and Polly seem to be mixed up in. Investigating deep into the woods leads them to the Gargoyle King, teasing ritualistic worships throughout two episodes so far. Coincidentally, the latest in the Archie-verse is a show about a teenage with and witchcraft. Could this season of Riverdale, or at least the first half, tie into The Chilling Tales of Sabrina?
What spinoffs could be next for the Archie-verse? Josie and the Pussycats? They’re too involved in the main story for Betty and Veronica, but what about Cheryl Blossom which had its own comic run? Wilbur? The Mighty Crusaders would certainly fit CW programming. One things for sure, the CW has no problem building stronger universes. If Riverdale continues to do well and they can have a strong showing with Sabrina, it won’t be long before they expand the Archie-verse.[RickTwitter]
