College Football: Who is on Upset Alert in Week Eight?
Every week going forward in the college football season, I will provide three teams that should be on Upset Alert going into their game.
Last week, my upsets were 1-2 against the spread, 1-2 straight up. I successfully predicted a UCLA win over Cal. However, I was way off base with the other two picks.
So who is on high alert this week? Let’s find out!
COLLEGE FOOTBALL WEEK EIGHT UPSET ALERT
HOUSTON (-13.5) @ Navy
Stopping the option is always a tricky proposition. Houston has been the class of the AAC West this season. The Cougars are led by future Top-5 pick Ed Oliver. How do you neutralize a player like Oliver? You chop him down every play. That is what the Midshipmen offense will attempt to do. The Middies won’t win, but I think they keep it close.
Memphis @ MISSOURI (-9.5)
Drew Lock and Missouri can score. That is not up for debate. However, so can Memphis. The Memphis Tigers are led by the “Human First Down,” RB Darrell Henderson. Henderson is averaging 10.3 (!) yards per carry. He is already over 1100 yards on the season.
Missouri has been relatively stable against the run in 2018. Mizzou is only giving up 3.5 yards per carry. This just feels like a game that might come apart for Missouri. Maybe a few Drew lock turnovers happen?
Give me Memphis outright.
San Jose State @ SAN DIEGO STATE (-27.5)
I know I picked San Jose State last week. I know they let me down. This week is going to be different. The Aztecs are nearly a 4 TD favorite. San Diego State has scored exactly 28 points in a game this year, TWICE! They are going to beat the Spartans. I do not doubt this. They just won’t do it by 28.
