College Football: Five Games to Watch in Week Eight
On the surface, this appears to be a solid week of college football action. Each of the Power Five conferences has a marquee game this week. Especially in the Pac-12.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL: FIVE GAMES TO WATCH
Michigan @ Michigan State, 11 am FOX
Is Michigan back? Do we believe in Jim Harbaugh? The Wolverines need to beat their cross-state rivals to get this conversation started. QB Shea Patterson has led a revival of the Michigan offense. The defense, led by Chase Winovich has been steady all year.
The Spartans are coming off of a last-minute upset of Penn State. Can Mark Dantonio and his crew get another colossal conference win? Brian Lewerke will need another big game against the Michigan defense.
Colorado @ Washington, 2:30 pm FOX
The Buffaloes are no longer undefeated. Colorado fell to Southern Cal last week. The Trojans did a good job (for the most part) of taking away Laviska Shenault Jr. I look for Washington to use similar tactics.
Washington is coming off of an overtime loss to Oregon. The Huskies must rebound to stay in the Pac-12 North race. Defensive backs Taylor Rapp and Byron Murphy will have their hands full with Shenault.
NC State @ Clemson, 2:30 pm ESPN
The winner of this game could potentially lock up a spot in the ACC Championship Game. Both squads are unbeaten. The loser, especially if it is the Wolfpack, will likely be out of the Playoff race as well.
The Pack defenders need to pressure Trevor Lawrence. He only has a handful of starts. This will easily be the most robust defense he has faced.
Oregon @ Washington State, 6:30 pm FOX
After years of lobbying, College Gameday is finally coming to Pullman. WAZZU enters at 5-1. Their only loss was a five-point defeat to Southern Cal. The story for the Cougars has been the surprise play of grad-transfer QB Gardner Minshew. Minshew is completing 69% of his passes with a 19/4 TD/INT ratio.
Presumptive top QB in the 2019 NFL Draft, Justin Herbert, has been dealing. Herbert led the Ducks to the upset of Washington. Oregon is a complete collapse to Stanford away from being perfect.
This is the game of the day, in my opinion.
Southern Cal @ Utah, 7 pm P12N
Utah has been delivering the goods on offense. Zach Moss has been phenomenal this season. The defense, led by Chase Hansen, has played excellent at times.
I don’t know what to make of the Trojans? Are they getting better? Is J.T. Daniels finally playing up to par? Southern Cal has won three in a row after getting smacked around by Stanford and Texas.
The winner of this game can take control of the Pac-12 South.
