Arizona Cardinals: Look to Make a Huge Splash With This Deadline Deal
The Arizona Cardinals have several glaring needs, but unfortunately, members of the coaching staff can’t be traded. Even though most Cardinals fans including myself would trade Mike McCoy for a baker’s dozen at Krispy Kreme. Realistically, the position that should be filled at the trade deadline is a wide receiver.
Last season the team had the second most drops in the NFL behind the New York Giants. In this previous offseason, they tried to address the position by bringing in some new talent including drafting Christian Kirk. Although Kirk has been a major bright spot, the drops are still a massive issue. Something that he must be correct immediately. With this glaring need, it shouldn’t be a surprise if a wide receiver would be at the top of their needs come next draft.
Therefore, the Oakland Raiders have announced they are willing to trade their superstar Amari Cooper. Their asking price? A first-round draft pick. This trade should be a no-brainer for the Cardinals to inquire about, assuming the number one need is a wide receiver, especially with Larry Fitzgerald possibly retiring within the next season or two.
What should they offer?
The Raiders are clearly trying to blow up their roster after waving goodbye to Khalil Mack before the start of the season. In saying that, the Cardinals should probably throw in one of next years second round draft picks, along with Deone Bucannon. The addition of Deone is crucial. He is on the last year of his contract after being a former first-round pick. Additionally, he has expressed displeasure with the Cardinals organization. So he should fit what the Raiders are looking for if they are trying to do a roster rebuild. Bucannon is a veteran player that can help develop some talent, but at the same time, he’s got a lot of experience in the NFL for only being 26 years old.
Just imagine for one second what the 2019 receiver corps could be for the Arizona Cardinals. If they make this trade, they can still snag N’keal Harry from Arizona State in the first round. So in 2019, The Arizona Cardinals would have Christian Kirk, Larry Fitzgerald, N’keal Harry, and Amari Cooper in their wide receiver room, with a young QB who’s bright side is only going to get brighter. Unfortunately, all of this would be a moot point if they remain with the same, predictable offensive coordinator though.
