New England Patriots: 3 Things to Watch Against the Colts
The New England Patriots now enter week 5 after a blow out win over division rival the Miami Dolphins. They now go up against the Indianapolis Colts. This game used to be one that everyone waited for. It brought two of the best quarterbacks ever to play the game in Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. Peyton has since retired, and Tom said he wants to play until he turns 45. Now the Pats will get the returning Andrew Luck. Luck missed all last season after having shoulder surgery.
1. Look for the Pats to go 6-0 against the Colts
Since Luck has taken over as the starter he is 0-5 against the Pats. His passer rating is 87.7, but against the New England Patriots, it drops to 65.1. They haven’t played in 3 years. Luck said that there is no reason to look at the tape because it is so old. He did have his best game against the Pats. Luck went 30 for 50 for 312 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions in a 34-27 loss. Belichick will have another plan set for Luck. The defense fixed many things last week and will be better especially on run defense.
2. How will both teams do with the short week
Both teams played on Sunday and now they must turn around and be prepared for a game on Thursday. This is what the NFL players have complained about in the past having to prepare on a short notice. The Patriots are coming off their best game, beating the Dolphins 38-7. The Colts, on the other hand, lost to a division opponent in overtime 37-34. The Patriots will have to continue to do what they did a week ago. The Colts are going to have to try and find a way to overcome they’re lost against the Texans and beat Belichick and the Pats.
3. Who will cover Gronk
Tom Brady will have Julian Edelman back this week. He also has Josh Gordon who looked good in his New England Patriots debut. One of Brady’s reliable weapons has been Rob Gronkowski. In many cases, the Colts linebackers will have trouble covering him. They will have to depend on corners or safeties to cover him. No matter where he lines up they will have to be aware. He will be significant in the game tomorrow night.
Look for the game to be a good one. This will be the first time in three years these two teams will meet. Will this be the first time the Colts beat the Pats in 6 tries? What kind of plan will Belichick have to keep the streak alive and lead the Pats to another win over the Colts? The Thursday night games have gotten better let’s hope this one doesn’t disappoint us.
