Perfection: Notre Dame Has a Chance at 12-0
In the 2018 college football season, Notre Dame remains undefeated, for now. The road so far for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish hasn’t been easy. However, they have fought to a 5-0 start. They began the season taking down the Michigan Wolverines 24-17 and playing it close again versus Ball State 24-16.
Notre Dame pulled one out against a tough Vanderbilt team 22-17. After inserting Ian Book at QB they dominated the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 56-27. This past weekend was Notre Dame’s most impressive win beating the then #14 Stanford Cardinals 38-17. They capped off a 5-0 start with that thumping of the leader in the PAC-12 and look to continue to more wins.
They have a chance to go 12-0 but, the path has some challenges for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
The Remaining Schedule for Notre Dame
Saturday, Notre Dame will face Virginia Tech. They open up as a four-point favorite in Blacksburg. Even though the Hokies are ranked #24, Virginia Tech lost to a 0-3 Old Dominion team and Notre Dame is better.
The Fighting Irish will then have a home game against Pittsburgh and open up as a 23.5-point favorite.
Notre Dame then travels to Navy as a 21-point favorite. The Irish then host Northwestern as an 11-point favorite over the Wildcats.
Notre Dame has another home game against the Florida State Seminoles and is favored by 16 points. The Syracuse Orange come to play in South Bend and the Irish are currently an 11-point fave there.
Then in the 12th regular season game is on the road in a rivalry battle versus USC Trojans. This USC team isn’t the best but, always play tough. The Fighting Irish are 4.5-point favorites in LA.
They are favored in every game remaining. This doesn’t guarantee anything. However, the schedule leans in their favor to go 12-0. This defense has allowed, at most, 27 points in a game. On an average of only 18.8 points per game. This offense was the only thing holding them back and they have been scoring under quarterback Ian Book. They can win the remainder of these games after the quarterback change and a stout defense. Anything is possible but only time will tell what the 2018 college football season has in store for Notre Dame.
In my personal prediction with the way the season has went, I have the Fighting Irish finishing at 11-1. The Fighting Irish proved me wrong this season because at the beginning of 2018 I had Notre Dame at 9-3. The losses to Michigan, Stanford, and Florida State but the season has played out differently. The only loss I have them taking is an upset rivalry loss to USC in the final regular season game. In my opinion, they won’t get a playoff spot but, will get a New Year’s Six invitation. Whatever happens, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have a chance at perfection. Like every college football season, this one is going to be a classic finish.
