College Football: Five Games to Watch in Week Six
College Football is light on the marquee games this week. LSU/Florida is one of the top matchups. However, I already wrote about that one. Let’s take a look at five other matchups. These may not all have national implications but they are all interesting.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL: FIVE GAMES TO WATCH
Oklahoma vs. Texas, 11 am FOX (Dallas, TX)
The Red River Rivalry is this weekend and both teams are coming in hot. Texas survived Kansas State last week. Oklahoma throttled Baylor.
Which Texas team will show? The Longhorns team that lost to Maryland? Or the Texas squad that beat up Southern Cal and TCU? One thing I do know about the Longhorns is that they play tremendous defense. They will need that on Saturday.
Kyler Murray didn’t start for Oklahoma against Baylor and he still managed to set school records. Outside of the aberration against Army, Murray and the Sooners offense has run roughshod over every school they have faced.
I expect this to be the game of the day.
San Diego State @ Boise State, 2:30 pm ESPNU
Mountain West supremacy is on the line in this game. Brett Rypien and the Broncos have dominated for most of the season. However, the Aztecs are likely to be the best defense they have faced this season.
I expect Boise State to win but the Aztecs to keep it close.
Arizona State @ Colorado, 3 pm P12N
The Colorado Buffalos are a surprising 4-0. They are doing it with an offense that is averaging 40 points and 490 yards per game. They have also done this against a schedule that has combined for ONE FBS win.
Arizona State started hot under new head coach herm Edwards. The Sun Devils have cooled a bit since. They have narrow losses to San Diego State and Washington. ASU QB Manny Wilkins will have to try to keep pace with upstart Colorado QB Steven Montez.
This would be a fun game to watch if DirecTV offered Pac 12 Network. Oh well.
Notre Dame @ Virginia Tech, 7 pm ABC
The Irish are now favored to win every game remaining on their schedule after beating up Stanford last week. Ian Book has been a revelation for their offense.
The Hokies bounced back from their embarrassing loss to Old Dominion with a big win over previously unbeaten Duke. New QB Ryan Willis looked great against the Blue Devils. Willis threw for 332 yards and three TDs.
This game may be the last threat the Irish have for a loss until the Southern Cal game on November 24th.
Utah @ Stanford, 9:30 pm ESPN
How will Stanford respond? The hype train was rolling after their epic come-from-behind win over Oregon. The Cardinal then laid an egg in South Bend. Bryce Love has been mostly pedestrian this season. JJ Arcega-Whiteside is the new star offensive player.
The Utes defense has been phenomenal this season. Utah is giving up just 16 points and 265 yards per game. They will need another effort like that this week to pull out a win.
