Florida Gators: Looking Ahead to Mississippi State

The Florida Gators will continue their SEC schedule this Saturday afternoon against an SEC West opponent, the Mississippi State Bulldogs. They are coming off a blowout win last week in Knoxville against the Tennessee Volunteers. The Gators finally looked like the team that everyone thought they would be. They are moving in the right direction. The loss to the Kentucky Wildcats may have been a blessing in disguise. Now they will play in their second road SEC game.

This return to Starkville will come with some unique elements. One will be the return of Dan Mullen. He coached the Bulldogs for nine years before leaving for Gainesville. The Bulldogs did very well why he was a head coach there. Mississippi State will have to rebound after a loss to the Kentucky Wildcats. Now, the Wildcats have beaten both the Gators and Bulldogs.

The big question is can the Florida Gators win in Starkville. In the season series, when it is played in Starkville, the Gators are 1-5.  Maybe the answer to that question is Dan Mullen. He knows the system that the Bulldogs run. Perhaps Mullen sets a game plan to lead the Gators to just their second win in Starkville. The method will have to be like what Kentucky used last week. That plan should be to run the ball and let Feleipe Franks throw short passes.

The plan should also include the defense the Florida Gators had against Tennessee. The turnovers will help any team if they turn them into points. The Florida Gators did that a week ago, putting the game away early. Like Kentucky, Mississippi State has a running quarterback with Nick Fitzgerald. If the defense gets sacks and forces turnovers the winning streak for the Bulldogs in Starkville will be over. This will be the start of their tough SEC schedule, and this could be upset that they need to continue and turn their season around.

Dan Mullen will return Starkville, and it will be emotional at first and then its game time. Both teams will come out with their best game plans, and we will have to see who’s works out better. The Florida Gators will try and get win number two in Starkville. The Gators should study the Wildcats game tape and try their best to duplicate what they did and execute that. This will be a typical SEC afternoon game in one of the best conferences in all of college football. Look for an upset in this game.
