Boston Red Sox: Historic Season Could Lead To Another World Series Title

The Boston Red Sox are having one hell of a season. With the New York Yankees expected to run away with the division this year, the Red Sox made sure that would not happen. Can you really think back to a time in the season when the division was really in doubt? The Yankees are young and they will be a threat moving forward as will the Tampa Bay Rays. The Red Sox did all of this with a rookie manager. They will set a record for most wins as a franchise, have two MVP candidates and their manager is up for manager of the year.

This year, the Red Sox will set a new franchise record for wins. In the year 1912, they won 105 games. In 2018, they have 105 as we speak with a week of baseball left. It’s hard to imagine them not winning at least one more game. The Red Sox have done this with a great offense, stout defense, and pitching. At times, the starting pitching had been suspect, but the bullpen has been there when it needs to be. Boston had many come from behind wins in 2018 which has helped them cruise in the AL East.

The Sox offense has been great up and down the lineup. There are two players that have stuck out and are in line for the MVP and maybe the Triple Crown. The one that is at the top of the lineup is Mookie Betts. Betts is currently hitting .343 with 31 HRs, 78 RBI’s, and 28 stolen bases. This is how the Red Sox begin every game with a player like this that gets on base and hits homers when they need him. The other MVP candidate and a possible Triple Crown winner is J.D Martinez. He’s used primarily as the Designated Hitter. Martinez is currently hitting .329 average with 41 HRs and 124 RBI’s. He was brought in to fill the shoes left by retiring David Ortiz. Both guys will be in the running for the MVP at the end of the year.

Are The Boston Red Sox Legit Contenders?

Alex Cora was hired after the Boston Red Sox fired John Farrell. Cora played for the Red Sox during his career. Cora inherited a good lineup which improved drastically with the addition of J.D. Martinez. He has kept the team together and has made Fenway Park a fun place to go and watch baseball. Cora will be a finalist to win manager of the year. He will be going up against Oakland Athletics manager Bob Melvin and Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash.

The big question for Red Sox fans is can they finally get out of the first round of the playoffs? They’ve been ousted the last two years by the Cleveland Indians. This year, by winning the division they have put themselves in the driver’s seat to host playoffs games at Fenway. The team has come together for one goal– to win the World Series. Look for the Boston Red Sox to continue the path they are on. The Red Sox are looking good on winning yet another World Series.
