Tennessee Titans: Three Bold Predictions for the 2018 Season
The Tennessee Titans were a playoff team in 2017. A surprise one at that. They got in on the last day of the season. Despite making the playoffs, the team still decided to part way with their head coach. Now the Titans are heading in a new direction with a new head coach, new running back, and new hope. However, they play in a tough AFC South division where they have to face the Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans twice per year. While 2018 looks promising, nothing is a guarantee. In saying that, here are three bold predictions for the 2018 Tennessee Titans.
- Derrick Henry is top five in rushing
In the playoffs, Henry became the bell cow back that the Titans hoped for when they drafted him. Now they are finally giving him the reins. Can he take advantage? Henry is a powerful back that has excellent vision. While his feet need some work in the hole, once he hits the hole he is hard to bring down. This will aid in his ability to produce yardage. Especially after contact. Thus allowing him to be at or near the top of the NFL.
- Marcus Mariota plays 16 games
This is something he has yet to do in his career. The most he has played in 3 years is 15 games. This year they will need him to be healthy. Although, with Henry becoming the workhorse this could take some of the heat off Mariota. Therefore, allowing him to play a complete schedule and not miss due to injury.
- Titans will miss the playoffs
Playing in the AFC South is going to be the main reason for this. However, the AFC, in general, is getting better. Teams like the Los Angeles Chargers, Miami Dolphins, and Cleveland Browns are all better and should be in the running for the playoffs. Leaving the Tennessee Titans on the outside looking in.
While the Tennessee Titans will be competitive, they will come up short. Making Henry the bell cow is smart. Especially since they signed Dion Lewis for passing situations. Mariota will have to be spectacular for the team to consider the playoffs.
