Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Colin Kaepernick makes sense amid Jameis Winston’s Issues

We all know by now the legal troubles that Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB, Jameis Winston is facing. He is facing a minimum of a three-game suspension. However, with all the new details that keep coming out, it could be more. So, what will the Bucs do at the position? They will most certainly have to bring in a player to backup Ryan Fitzpatrick. Will they make a trade or scour the free agents that are available? Who knows? No matter what they do, there is one name out there they should give serious consideration to, Colin Kaepernick.

Kaepernick would be a strong player in Tampa. He is a veteran who can provide leadership and play a key role. He also has a solid supporting cast around him. Wide receivers like Mike Evans, DeSean Jackson, and Chris Godwin will give him solid air support. There are also TEs O.J. Howard and Cameron Brate to use underneath. Furthermore, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers may now have some semblance of a running game with the addition of Ronald Jones. All of this gives Kaepernick a strong supporting cast.

Think back to the 2012 and 2013 season when Kaepernick was in San Francisco. He had a strong supporting cast around him and he led them to back to back NFC Playoff appearances and one Super Bowl appearance. The cast is just as strong with the Bucs. Playoffs could be an eventual possibility.

Many will think that I am absurd in my thinking. After all the Buccaneers would be going from one PR nightmare to another. What many do not realize, the Colin Kaepernick issue is nothing illegal. He is simply standing up for something he feels is wrong in our society, police brutality. Nothing on the level of what they are investigating Winston for.

Thus bringing in Colin Kaepernick could bring in some positive PR to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Many would see them as the franchise that finally gives Kap a second chance at his NFL career. Something that Colin Kaepernick more than deserves.

Finally, the skill sets of Kaepernick and Winston are similar. They are both mobile, have strong arms, and accurate. Given the offense that Dirk Koetter runs for Jameis Winston, he would not have to change much if they were to bring in a player such as Colin Kaepernick.

As much as fans and critics may hate the move, Kaepernick is a smart move for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He may just actually be the move that puts the team over the hump in 2018 and beyond.
