NFL Rumors: Dez Bryant And 49ers Are Great Fit, Per ‘NFL Spin Zone’
The Dallas Cowboys released Dez Bryant Friday morning making the wide receiver available to any team in the NFL. The question now is, where will Bryant land? According to Cody Williams of NFL Spin Zone, the San Francisco 49ers are a possible destination. Adding Bryant will give the new-look 49ers another threat on offense to pair with Jimmy Garoppolo.
In the eyes of the Cowboys, Bryant is no longer a true No. 1 receiver. The decision was made a little easier after the Cowboys signed free agent Allen Hurns this offseason, making Bryant expendable. While Bryant’s numbers have taken a dip, he’s still considered to be a dangerous weapon.
Bryant was selected with the 24th pick in 2010 and has totaled 531 receptions for 7459 yards and 73 touchdowns. Yes, 73 TD catches and that reason alone is why teams will be lining up for his services. What will make the 49ers and Bryant paring work is that the Niners are in need of a veteran player who can make the tough catches when need be. Yes, Bryant has dropped some passes over the years and lost clutch fumbles but it’s hard to argue with 73 touchdowns and an average of 14 yards per catch.
Why The 49ers Would Be Best For Odell Beckham
What the 49ers should also consider is how thin they are at the receiver position with just Marquise Goodwin and Pierre Garcon. While each payer brings an added dimension to the aerial attack, adding Beckham will instantly make the offense a viable threat for defenses to consider.
For Bryant, this would be a good move even with rumors circulating that Beckham could be on his way to a rival NFC East team. He will get a fresh start and hopefully leave behind any drama he had in Dallas. The 49ers will get a player who will enter the 2018 season with a serious chip on his shoulder to prove that Jerry Jones was wrong for letting him go.
There are other teams they will come for Dez Bryant such as the New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts or Baltimore Ravens. But in the end, the 49ers may be the best fit for the talented receiver.
