New England Patriots Rumors: Could a Rob Gronkowski trade be Coming?
The New England Patriots have made some crazy moves during their time at the top. From trading, Jaime Collins to not signing Nate Solder just to name a couple. Now they may be up to making one of the biggest moves of all-time. Could the team be considering a trade of its famed TE, Rob Gronkowski? Reports are out that the team could be fielding trade calls on one of the most popular players in franchise history. Hence, the question becomes where could he land? Here are a couple of trade partners that come to mind.
Los Angeles Rams
The Rams have not shied away from the big trade this offseason. So what is one more? The Rams could use the big play tight end. Adding another weapon, one the caliber of Rob Gronkowski, only aids in the development of QB Jared Goff.
Remember, when Sean McVay was OC of the Washington Redskins? He had Jordan Reed. Reed is often compared to Gronkowski. Therefore, for the Rams to add a player like Gronk would make the Rams offense just that much more formidable.
New York Jets
The Jets recently lost their big TE in Austin Seferian-Jenkins. Thus, making a move for Rob Gronkowski would secure a weapon for Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater. It would also replace the loss of one of their highest outputs on offense in ASJ. Although, the Jets may no longer have the salary cap space to make such a move.
San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers would bring in a familiar face for franchise QB Jimmy Garoppolo. Meanwhile, bringing a veteran like Rob Gronkowski can also help in the development if the young TE George Kittle.
The Browns would become so much more dynamic with the addition of Gronkowski. Tyrod Taylor would be able to have the comfort of throwing to whomever he wanted to. Teaming Gronk up with David Njoku, Jarvis Landry, and Corey Coleman would almost make the Browns unstoppable.
The Colts could add TE Rob Gronkowski. They are currently $62 million under the cap. Hence, adding the Gronk contract would not be an issue. Also, adding a player with the caliber of Gronkowski, teaming him with Jack Doyle and TY Hilton, gives Frank Reich more options on a young offense.
Trading a player like Rob Gronkowski could be a brilliant move by the New England Patriots, Bill Belichick, and Robert Kraft. Especially if Gronk is only considering a year or two more in the NFL. Get value or a player that still has plenty in him.
