Denver Broncos Draft Talk: Five names possible at the 5th Pick

For the Denver Broncos and General Manager, John Elway the 2018 NFL Draft could be a big one. They currently sit in the fifth spot of the first round. While there have been many rumors about them moving up, I would expect the team to stay put at five and select one of these five players. The Broncos need to improve the team in a big way. Thus, selecting one of the five people is a great start.

  1. Baker Mayfield, QB – Oklahoma

Elway and Head Coach Vance Joseph had a first-hand look of Mayfield at the Senior Bowl. They were also present at the Oklahoma Pro Day as well. While Mayfield is most certainly worthy of being a day one starter, bringing him in and allowing him to sit might not be a bad idea. After all, the Denver Broncos just spent $36 million on Case Keenum.

  1. Josh Allen, QB – Wyoming

Allen is gaining traction as one of the top QBs due to his huge arm. He can really throw the ball. However, many teams are not set that he has the rest of the intangibles. Early on, I had Josh Allen as the best in the draft. Nonetheless, that has changed. Although, he is still one of the top three.

  1. Bradley Chubb, DE – NC State

While it is hard to see Chubb at five, the possibilities are there.  If he were there, the Denver Broncos would be hard-pressed not to select him. In fact, teaming him up with Von Miller would be insane. The pass rush of the Broncos would become elite immediately.

  1. Saquon Barkley, RB – Penn State

This another one that I do not expect to be around when the Broncos pick at five. Nonetheless, if he were there I would look for John Elway to pull the trigger. Barkley is probably the best overall talent in this draft. Adding him in the offensive backfield with Keenum would give the team a valuable 1-2 punch.

  1. Quenton Nelson, OL – Notre Dame

Nelson makes the most sense to me. The Denver Broncos have recently upgraded their offensive line with the trade for Jared Veldheer. He will become their starting right tackle. Along with this trade, they have moved G, Ron Leary to the left side. This then moves Conner McGovern into the RG slot. Nonetheless, the selection of Nelson could bring a sense of great security to the Broncos for years to come.

The Denver Broncos would make an immediate upgrade to their team with one of these five players. A couple of these are no-brainers if they happen to fall. Thus, John Elway will need to be wise when he is on the clock.

Whom do you think the Denver Broncos should select at number 5? Leave a comment below.
