Meet The Ladies Of Ocean’s 8
The Gang is back together for Ocean’s 8, well kinda…
The Steven Soderbergh directed trilogy is back, but with a new roster of criminally gifted women. That’s right, the spin-off of the Ocean’s trilogy will debut with an unfamiliar look to the film, an all-female cast. Starring Sandra Bullock, who’s character recruits seven other women to perform a $150 million dollar heist at New York City’s star-studded annual Met Gala. But the film isn’t just another summer spin-off, the cast is actually pretty star-studded. Alongside Bullock, the cast includes Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Mindy Kaling and Awkwafina. After being granted parole from her previous criminal endeavors, Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock) risks it all for a heist that she believes is worth the risk.
The critics speak.
In the original Ocean’s Eleven film, released in 1960, the heist crew starred Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr. But if that doesn’t ring a bell, you might have caught the remade version of Ocean’s Eleven back in 2001 which starred George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Don Cheadle. With the release of the Ocean’s 8 cast sheet, the filmmakers and actresses caught a little backlash from the trilogy’s biggest fans and skeptics. Many fans argued that the movie will not live up to expectations and that cast would not work out. While still in production of the film, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Bullock was asked about the all criticism the movie was getting.
“It’s like, let’s just take a breath and let’s just see if we come up with something fun. There should be a moratorium. There should be a rule, you’re not allowed to say anything nasty until after it comes out. Obviously, that’s never going to happen.”Bullock goes on to say, I’ll tell you, we’ve got some feisty women that will fight right back,”
But Bullock also seems to want to create a new spin on the movie series but also show respect to the prior films. “Let’s see if we can take the original and then make our own version, sort of pay homage to the Ocean series,” she said.”If something strikes a chord, an Ocean’s 9 would be ideal.”
With the film releasing June 8, 2018, one can only hope that the women of Ocean’s 8 deliver a performance worthy to be added and respected as apart of the movie’s collection, but also shuts up the many skeptics.
