WWE: Rey Mysterio And John Cena Might Just Steal The Show At WrestleMania 34

Rey Mysterio and John Cena are what’s best for business. The proposed WrestleMania 34 match might not be the first choice for fans. Nonetheless, it’s the best WWE can come up with right now, and truthfully it’s not a bad idea.

Two of the most successful and attention-grabbing WWE stars of the last 15 years, Cena and Mysterio have been at the top of their games. With Cena doing both WWE and Hollywood and Mysterio doing the indie circuit and Lucha Underground, the two have kept busy the last two years.

As we approach WrestleMania 34, the upcoming John Cena/Rey Mysterio match is one that could really prove who’s been the alpha dog for WWE. Both are monsters in merchandise sales, with the kids going nuts over the both their respective merchandise. You could argue that Cena and Mysterio is a dream match.

As it stands now, Cena and Mysterio have faced each other twice on TV. The two do not have any matches on PPV (cagematch.net). With the small amount of time they’ve faced each other, this is probably the biggest match you can do for both (In Cena’s case, outside of the Undertaker). We haven’t seen them wrestle nearly at all, and this could very well be the match of the night.

Everyone wants Cena to face Undertaker, and Mysterio to win the Cruiserweight belt, but that’s not going to happen on either account. Having these two face off might not be the first choice for WWE. Apparently, John Cena requested Rey Mysterio or Samoa Joe as opponents if Taker couldn’t go for Mania. And with Joe out of action, Mysterio is the only choice left.

So, who’s going to be the heel, and who’s going to be the face? The smart money is on this being a face vs. face match. There’s little time to turn either one into a full heel. And with the merchandise they can crank out, WWE would be foolish to turn either into a heel.

The outcome of the match should be simple, let Mysterio win. While everyone says Cena buries talent, Rey is the only one (aside from Taker) that Cena needs to beat on a big PPV to lay claim as the best. However, Cena doesn’t need the win. This would define Mysterio’s career more than Cena’s.

Beating the biggest name in wrestling over the last 15 years at Mania is the final step for Mysterio to enter the Hall of Fame next year. Of course, he’s already got a spot in the WWE HOF. Thus, this would just be the icing on the cake for him. It would cap off an amazing run in the WWE.

When it’s all said and done, Mysterio/Cena might be the match of the night. We might not think of these two putting on a 5-star match at their age. However, the pure emotion and build up to this would be greater than just about anything in the last 10 years. It’s a dream match, and it’s probably happening at WrestleMania 34.
