NFL Free Agency: Top Three Free Agent Running Backs
The 2018 NFL off-season starts on March 14. As we move forward, the talk will be about free agency. Who are the top free agents in a certain position? What team will be looking to sign them? In the coming weeks, I will bring you the top free agents at these positions. The first position we looked at were QBs. Next up is the running backs. Below are the top three free agent RBs in the NFL and teams who should target the player.
- Isaiah Crowell
Crowell was the best running back for the Cleveland Browns. The team would be remiss not to re-sign him. However, it looks as though they will be letting him hit the free agent market. There are a few running back hungry teams that could acquire his services.
Crowell will not come on the expensive side either. He should be a very cap friendly type running back. Teams like the Seattle Seahawks or Washington Redskins could use a full-time serviceable back like Crowell. I do not see Crowell back in Cleveland in 2018. Target Teams – Seattle Seahawks and Washington Redskins.
- Doug Martin
Martin was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week. Thus, making him a free agent. I feel that Martin is one of the highest overall free agents in 2018. He is only 29-years-old. He is a 6-year veteran.
Martin will be on an NFL roster in 2018. Where, is the question. He will be looking to go to a team that is need of a starting running back. An ideal landing spot would be the Washington Redskins. When their offensive line is healthy, they can move teams around. Also, Doug Martin is a shifty runner who has power between the tackles. Target Teams – Washington Redskins and New York Jets.
- Le’Veon Bell
The ideal consensus is that Bell will return to the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, until that happens, he is a free agent on March 14. That is, unless the Steelers decide to use their franchise tag on him again. Although Bell has said that if they do he will not sign and hold out all year if need be.
As I stated, Bell will most likely return to the Steel City. Nonetheless, there are a few teams that could be holding out hope he hits the market. In fact, the Cleveland Browns have the biggest cap space. Furthermore, adding Bell and QB could really stick it to their division rivals. The New York Jets could also improve with a running back like Bell. Ultimately, though, Bell will be right back in the Black and Yellow. Target Teams – Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Browns, and New York Jets.
The 2018 free agency class of running backs is not as deep as that of the quarterbacks. In addition to these three, backs like Chris Ivory, LeGarrette Blount, Alfred Morris, and Carlos Hyde could see themselves finding work. Thus, Christmas is coming NFL fans. So, what present will your team try to open?
