Super Mario: Illumination/Universal Have A Chance To Right The Wrongs Of 1993

Finally, a Super Mario Brothers movie that won’t suck. With Illumination (Despicable Me, Minions, Secret Life of Pets, and Sing) behind the film, this might be the Mario we’ve all been waiting for. And it’s about damn time.

The 1993 live-action Super Mario Brothers was a tad disappointing. That’s actually being nice about the film. There were no redeeming qualities about it. It strayed very far away from the actual video games. This is what Illumination and Universal Studios must get right.

After the success of Super Mario Odyssey, the popular video game on Nintendo Switch, a movie about the loveable plumber just had to be attempted once more. Unlike the 1993 disaster, this new Mario film will be animated. In fact, this will bring the franchise closer to its video game roots.

You can bet every dollar you’ve got that this movie will feature the likes of Princess Peach, Yoshi, Luigi, and Bowser. Although, no one knows the setting of this movie. Could it take place in a location from the Super Mario 64 or Mario Sunshine games, or a city setting like Super Mario Odyssey?

All fans ask is that the 1993 film is put far out of their memory. That movie seemed to do more harm than good for the franchise. Hence, here’s a fresh start at getting things right. So if Mario goes well, we could be talking sequel and films based on other Nintendo properties.

Illumination and Universal have a great track record of producing big money films. Thus, Mario will make a ton of cash for Universal. And with Nintendo Land becoming more of a reality at Universal Studios Orlando, this film will be the first taste of Universal’s vision for their parks.

Yes, there’s a lot riding on Mario. Especially since the 1993 disaster doesn’t sit well with fans. And with a younger generation playing the games, here’s the chance to fix all the wrongs that movie caused. Illumination will bring out the best in Mario. And that’s something we can all get excited about.
