Los Angeles Lakers: Isaiah Thomas might be the key to the Lakers future
On Thursday, the Los Angeles Lakers acquired guard Isaiah Thomas in a trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Cavs are receiving the majority of the headlines since the trade went down. However, the Lakers shouldn’t be ignored.
With Thomas set to become a free agent at season’s end, LA could re-sign him to a long-term contract. Why would they do this?
A) Thomas could be apart of a sign and trade scenario. If LA wants to acquire a star player and feels it’s necessary to sweeten the deal by making sure their trade partner has Thomas under contract, then it’s absolutely an option to consider.
B) If the Lakers can bring in an elite player to join forces with IT, then the purple and gold might be a playoff team in the West.
C) If Lonzo Ball can be healthy throughout an entire season, then the Lakers backcourt would be fun to watch. IT could move to the two as Ball would be in charge of running the point.
Thomas can bring life to a Lakers team that is really young. One that also has zero playoff experience aside from Andrew Bogut. IT can grow along with Kyle Kuzma, Brandon Ingram, and Ball. They need a veteran voice to help lead them through adversity.
Since a lot of history, glitz, and glamour surrounds the Los Angeles Lakers, the current Lakers roster will need a good veteran player that can keep calm and lead this team.
IT was terrific in Boston last season and if he can be the player he used to be, then LA will be reaching new heights in the near future.
Sure this trade could end up with zero impact on the Lakers’ future, but with the Lakers struggling to draw in free agents this type of trade was necessary.
