NFL: Benjamin Watson receives the Bart Starr Award

Benjamin Watson was recognized by Athletes in Action.  The Bart Starr award was presented to him on Saturday at the downtown Minneapolis Hilton during Superbowl Breakfast. This was the lead up to the Superbowl.  Former NFL Defensive End Akbar Gbajabiamila was the Emcee. He used uncanny wit and humor to warm up the audience.  Former NFL head coach turned NFL analyst Tony Dungy and Bart Starr Jr. were the presenters for the award.

Benjamin Watson was a clear-cut choice for the Bart Starr Award. Watson has been a great example of hard work both on and off the field.  An example of on the field work was not giving up on a play in the playoffs. Benjamin ran down Champ Baily from across the field, he came out of nowhere or so it seemed, leaving the Broncos on the 1-yard line. In fact, Mr. Watson has involved his foundation in every community he has been in as a football player. Mr. Watson has been at the forefront of thoughtfulness in cultural relations.  He wrote Under Our Skin. Benjamin has appeared on news sources such as Fox News to discuss some of these very issues.

Benjamin Watson has had the reputation of being in the community since the very start of his career. It is hard to believe that it took this long for people to recognize him for his efforts.  Ben displays a genuine love for his family, his faith, and his community as shown in his acceptance speech. “>Benjamin Watson’s Acceptance speech

So, what is next for Watson? He is currently a free agent. However, he stated he is looking to play more ball. Meanwhile, Mr. Watson completed his second book The New Dad’s Playbook: Gearing Up for the Biggest Game of Your Life.  One thing is certain, Benjamin Watson will continue to be a good light in the darkened world.
