Duke Blue Devils vs Virginia Cavaliers Mid-Season Match-up

On Saturday the number 2 ranked Virginia Cavaliers take on the #4 Duke Blue Devils. A battle between the top two teams in the ACC. Duke brings their 91.7 points per game offense and 43 Rebounds per game into this matchup. Virginia for years has been known for their defense but this year are showing that they can score on offense as well. It will be a tough task for them to come into Cameron Indoor and get a victory.

The Virginia Cavaliers have only lost one game all season thus far and that was to West Virginia when they were ranked 18 in the nation. Kyle Guy is leading the team in scoring with 15.2 PPG while Isaiah Wilkins is leading the way on the glass with 6.9 Rebounds per game. Virginia will have their hands full with guarding arguably the best player in the game right now in Marvin Bagley.  In order to win this game for Virginia, they will need to beat Duke with good defense and still be able to score. Duke averages 91 points a game and does not play defense all that well. So the game plan will be simple stop Duke scoring and you should be able to get the win.

For the Duke Blue Devils side, they have lost two conference games. One loss was to Boston College and the other loss to NC State. Thus, they need to have a statement win over Virginia. Duke already has quality wins. However, this win will put the conference on notice. Marvin Bagley leading all Duke players with 21.2 ppg and 11.5 rebounds per game. In fact, all 5 of Duke’s starters are averaging double digits in points this season. Duke will have to play tight defense and outscore and outrebound Virginia to get this crucial victory.

Outcome: I think the Duke Blue Devils will do the things necessary and will get the victory 84-75.
