Tampa Bay Buccaneers: What I Would Do, If I Was The GM

After another disappointing season, finishing 5-11, and last, in the NFC South, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a lot of things to work on. General Manager Jason Licht will have his hands full this summer. Yet, instead of saying what he should and shouldn’t do, I am going to place myself in his shoes. Thus, explaining what I would do if I was The Tampa Bay Buccaneers General Manager. Additionally, how I would attack the team’s current needs and what to do in free agency.

Cutting DeSean Jackson is the first thing that they need to do. This would clear up the cap room. Jackson needs to be one of the first people gone either by trade or release. Primarily because the Bucs pay him way too much, for little production. With the way, Chris Godwin showed up in the latter part of the season and Adam Humphries continuing to be a dominant force in the slot, it would be an easy decision to drop Jackson.

Improve the secondary, immediately and at all cost. Not only do they need to rejuvenate the corners, but the safeties as well. With LaMarcus Joyner and Trumaine Johnson becoming free agents, I would offer both a contract, considering both positions of safety and corner could use the help. Then, I would attack the defensive line and attempt to trade, or wait until he is released, and pick up Mohammed Wilkerson, to help bring some pressure on the defensive line.

Lastly, before the draft, I would offer Le’Veon Bell and Isaiah Crowell contracts, and drop Doug Martin. Martin has been unproductive since his rookie year. A fresh set of backs would be dynamic to assist Jameis Winston down the stretch of the season. However, the offensive line could also use help, and I would attack that in the draft as well.

These three keys may seem like a large load to handle. Nonetheless, if the Bucs were able to execute all the things that I would do as GM, they have the best chance of getting to a Super Bowl. Consequently, there is a multitude of other things that the Bucs could do.

What would you do if you were The Tampa Bay Buccaneers General Manager?
