MLB Rumors: Surprise team interested in Manny Machado

As many have noted that this has been one of the slowest offseasons in MLB. We are a little bit over a month until teams report to training camp and there are several top players who don’t have homes. However, Manny Machado has been the one talked about mostly. It is known that the Baltimore Orioles won’t be able to resign him after the 2018 season. He is testing the waters now to see where he would stand.

According to CBS Sports, the Arizona Diamondbacks have expressed interest in the third baseman. However, if they able to pull this off then Machado would more than likely play shortstop. Machado has gone on record that whatever team he heads to in either 2018 or 2019, then he would like to play shortstop. When this first came to the forefront, the feeling was that he was bound for the New York Yankees. However, the Orioles management has made it a mission to not have him go to the Yankees. It is also worth noting that there seems to be no trade imminent between the sides as they are only talking now.

How would this impact the National League West?

For some time, the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants have run MLB National League West. The addition of Manny Machado to the Diamondbacks lineup may finally help the Diamondbacks in a tough National League West. It is worth noting that Machado is still young as he is only 25. This means he hasn’t reached the prime of his career. He has rather good numbers that would help the Diamondbacks lineup as well.

According to ESPN, Manny Machado did sign a one year deal with the Orioles on Saturday to avoid arbitration. However, the Orioles can still move him if the right offer comes to them. It seems that the Diamondbacks are offering some of their high-level minor league players. The Orioles have gone on record to say that they have been nothing to spark their interest. This is why no deal is in place.

While all signs seem to point him going to the Yankees, the Orioles are truly not making it easy for him. Truthfully, I cannot see Manny Machado playing in Arizona. He wants to go to a team that is ready to win now. The Diamondbacks aren’t there yet. The Yankees are there and seem to be the logical choice for him.
