NFL Playoffs: Tennessee Titans at Kansas City Chiefs – Preview, Prediction, TV Info
The Kansas City Chiefs will host the Tennessee Titans in the first of four NFL Wild Card Playoff games this weekend. Here is a look at the game from each team and how to watch it.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs finished the regular season with a record of 10-6. They returned to their style of dominate play in the final few weeks of the season. This came after a stretch in which they lost six out of seven games in the middle of the season. During that stretch, it looked as if the Kansas City Chiefs may even miss the playoffs. However, they returned to some things that were working for them at the beginning of the year and wound up winning their final four games.
They enter this playoff season as the 4th seed in the AFC. Having won the AFC West Division in back-to-back seasons. The Chiefs will face a Titans team that barely got in the playoffs. They had to win their final game against a rested Jacksonville Jaguars to get in.
For the Kansas City Chiefs to move on from the Wild Card round they will need to continue to get solid play at QB from Alex Smith. Andy Reid will also need to utilize the run game to keep the Titans aggressive defense at bay. This has been Chiefs recipe for success all season long so why change now.
Chiefs Regular Season Leaders
Alex Smith – 341-505, 4,042 yards, 26 TDs, 5 INTs
Kareem Hunt – 272 carries, 1327 yards, 8 TDs, 1 Fumble
Travis Kelcie – 83 Rec, 1,038 yards, 8 TDs
Tyreek Hill – 75 Rec, 1,183 yards, 7 TDs
Daniel Sorenson – 88 tackles (66 Solo, 22 Assists)
Marcus Peters – 5
The Titans come into this game having backed into the playoffs. They needed a win last week against a resting Jacksonville Jaguars team to get in. They got it 15-10, finishing the regular season with a record of 9-7. Thus, they enter the playoffs as the 5th seed.
The Titans will need their defense to step up in the face of this Chiefs defense. They will need to put constant pressure in and the face of Alex Smith. Thus making him have happy feet in the pocket. If they are able to this, they should have some success along with staying in the ball game. If not, Smith and company could have a hayday against the 25th ranked pass defense
In addition to pressuring Alex Smith, the Titans run defense will need to bottle up Rookie of the Year Candidate, Kareem Hunt. If their fourth-ranked rush defense can continue to have the regular season success it could be a long day for the Chiefs.
On offense, it will be up to the second year back Derrick Henry to carry the load. The Titans will once again be without the services of DeMarco Murray. Hence, this will be where the Titans could find success against the Chiefs. The Chiefs Run defense is 25th in the league.
Marcus Mariota and company could have a very solid game. That is if the playoff pressure does not get to the young QB. The Chiefs rank 29th in the league against the pass. So, this could bode well for the like of Taywan Taylor, Rishard Matthews, and Delanie Walker.
Titans Regular Season Leaders
Marcus Mariota – 281-453, 3,232 yards, 13 TDs, 15 INTs
Derrick Henry – 176 carries, 744 yards, 5 TDs, 1 Fumble
Delanie Walker – 74 Rec, 807 yards, 3 TDs
Wesley Woodyard – 124 (84 solos, 40 assists)
