NFL Playoffs: Atlanta Falcons at Los Angeles Rams – Preview, Predictions, TV Info
On Saturday, the defending NFC Champion Atlanta Falcons travel to Los Angeles to take on the Los Angeles Rams. This is the first of two NFL NFC Wild Card games on the weekend. Therefore, what can we expect from these two teams in the playoffs? Look for a high scoring affair.
Los Angeles Rams
First year Head Coach, Sean McVay has the Rams playing exceptional football going into January. Especially on offense. In fact, this team is the number one scoring offense in the league. They are putting up 30 points per game. Likewise, that has given them a grand total of 478 points on the season.
RB and MVP candidate Todd Gurley leads the offense. Gurley finished second to Kansas City Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt for the rushing title. Had Gurley not sat out the final game, the title would have been his. Thus, his rest cost him the rushing title. Gurley was also excellent out of the backfield in 2017. He was one of the league-leading receivers out of the backfield.
On defense, Defensive Coordinator Wade Philips came over from Denver. However, he did not reap the same rewards as he did in the Mile High City. The Rams rank 19th in overall defense at the end of the regular season. Unlike past Rams teams, they finished 28th against the rush and 13th against the pass. This is why I believe that this game could become a high-scoring affair.
Rams Regular Season Leaders
Jared Goff – 296-487, 3,804 yards, 28 TDs, 7 INTs
Todd Gurley – 279 carries, 1,305 yards, 13 TDs
Todd Gurley – 64 Rec, 788 yards, 6 TDs
Cooper Kupp – 62 Rec, 869 yards, 5 TDs
Alec Ogletree – 95 (63 solo, 32 assists)
Mark Barron – 3
Lamarcus Joyner – 3, 1 TD[SeanNaylor2Ads]
The Falcons come into the Wild Card game as the sixth seed in the NFC. They come into this game having a 10-6 record. Coming out the NFC South where they finished third.
QB Matt Ryan leads their offense. It comes in ranked eighth in the league in total yards. The Falcons are also 15th in scoring. While they are not exactly high in scoring, they do have the capabilities to put up points. They are going to need those capabilities if they expect to keep pace with the Rams on Saturday night.
The defense of the Atlanta Falcons come in ninth overall. Additionally, they have the number 12 pass defense and the number 9 run defense. If they show up to play, they could make it difficult for the high-powered Rams offense. However, the question is if. I believe the Falcons will need an exceptional game from this side of the ball to walk home victors.
