Washington Redskins: Three keys in Week 17 against the New York Giants
For the Washington Redskins week 17, this year does not mean the same as last. There is no win and in or anything of that nature. This year the team is going home either way. So, how does a team that has nothing to play for get up for a game? Especially when the opponent is the second worst team in the league. What keeps you going? Here are the keys to a Redskins victory on Sunday.
The Washington Redskins defense has been exceptional over the past couple of weeks. They have been on the field for 151 plays in two games. In those two games, they only gave up 26 points. That includes only 1 TD. That TD came in garbage time last week against the Denver Broncos.
They will need to keep that effort going this week against the New York Giants. While this game may not have meaning as far as playoffs, it should have meaning for the future. The Giants have played fairly well since the firing of Ben McAdoo. Although this is a game that the Redskins should dominate, the Giants always tend to keep it close.
- Wide Receivers
The receiving corps of the Washington Redskins was under a microscope all season. In fact, they lost two 1,000+ yard wide receivers in free agency. However, they made a lack-luster attempt to replace them with the signing of Terrelle Pryor. Outside of Jamison Crowder and maybe Ryan Grant, this unit needs a couple of new faces. I would suggest that it comes by way of free agency or trade too. This draft is not really strong for WRs.
- Kirk Cousins
This could quite possibly be the final game of Cousins in Washington Redskins burgundy and gold. If so, I hope he finds a new home suitable to his needs and that can utilize his talents. So, the main goal would be a hope of resigning him. Nonetheless, he has his struggles against the Giants at times. Thus, he needs to have one of those outstanding Kirk Cousins games on Sunday. If he does, the Redskins should have no problem walking out of MetLife with a victory.
Hence, this will be a telling week for the Washington Redskins. They got affirmation that their head coach will be around next season. Now, the next step will be to lock up their QB. If they can do that and get some health, 2018 should be a very promising season.
