WWE Rumors: John Cena, Ronda Rousey set to win the Royal Rumble
We are three weeks away from the 2018 Royal Rumble. The feeling among the WWE fan base was the Shinsuke Nakamura and Asuka would win their respective Rumbles. However, it doesn’t seem that to be the case as of now.
According to wrestling sites, the favorites to win the Royal Rumble are John Cena and Ronda Rousey. If that happens to be the case, then we would get Cena/Styles and Rousey/Bliss or Asuka at Wrestlemania. Depending on how the WWE wants to go, they could give Asuka the belt beforehand. While Cena and Styles have shown to put on great matches, I don’t want to see this again. I am not taking away anything from their match at the 2017 Royal Rumble that was a match of the night. All I am saying is that there are a ton of guys who deserve the spot more than Cena. As we have written before on WBLZ, we have said Nakamura would be our guy. It has been teased for some time to have Nakamura/Styles at WrestleMania for a while.
Since both of them have been on the main roster, they have yet to clash in a singles match. For argument sakes, let’s say the WWE doesn’t want to pull the trigger on this match. You still have guys like Bobby Roode, Baron Corbin, Randy Orton as some of the names. The feeling is that the winner will be a member of the Smackdown roster. This is due to the fact it seems that Brock Lesnar will be facing Roman Reigns for the Universal Title. At this point, John Cena doesn’t need to win the Royal Rumble.
On the other hand, Ronda Rousey now being the favorite to win the Woman’s Royal Rumble is interesting. For starters, this all but means she will probably be making her debut at the Rumble. Secondly, I think you would have more of a riot on your hands if she wins over any of the other women. You keep building this women’s division up as an evolution to have a former UFC star win the inaugural one. I could see such people like Asuka or Paige winning it. In all honesty, it should be one of them. Asuka has yet to be pinned in the two years she has been the WWE, you give her a shot to get into the title picture and you won’t have her in it.
Mind we forget that the Royal Rumble is in Philadelphia. The last time you had someone who wasn’t a fan favorite win the Rumble, you heard about it.Follow @jon_blayne
