Washington Redskins: Three things to watch against the Los Angeles Chargers
For the Washington Redskins, a chance at the 2017 NFL Playoffs slipped past with their loss last week against the Dallas Cowboys. While they may still be mathematically alive, they would need a lot of help to get in. However, the teams need to handle their own. That starts on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers. A loss then would all but eliminate the Redskins. Here are the keys to obtaining victory against the Chargers.
- Stop Keenan Allen
Keenan Allen is on a torrid pace of the last couple of weeks. Keeping him in check is going to be key for the Washington Redskins. Their secondary has not played the best. Especially last week. Bashaud Breeland got abused by Dez Bryant. For the Redskins to have success against the Chargers, they may want to consider having Josh Norman travel. All other considerations should be off of the table.
- Run game
The past two out of three weeks the Washington Redskins have had 100-yard games. Last week the team was held in check. This week they have an opportunity to get back on track. The Chargers rank 31st against the run. Opposing teams are averaging 5 yards per carry and 130 yards per game. Being able to run the ball will open up the rest of the offense for Kirk Cousins. Sunday should be a game that the Redskins offense excels.
- Kirk Cousins
Are we entering the final four games of Kirk Cousins as a member of the Washington Redskins? If so these could be a try out for him. Nonetheless, Cousins needs to put this team on his back. He needs to take this team to the next level and show Redskins management that he is worth a high dollar payout. Thus, making off-schedule plays and keeping his team ahead of the chains will be key to a Redskins victory.
With the Washington Redskins being alive in the playoff race, its time to start playing like one. While the Chargers are a formidable opponent, they are a team that far more inferior to the Redskins. This could also be a home game away from home. So, take advantage.
