MLB Rumors: The New York Mets have interest in Starlin Castro
It is safe to say that it has been an interesting few weeks for Castro. He goes from being a New York Yankee to the Miami Marlins. However, the Castro moving may not be done. It seems that he might not even see the inside of Marlins Park and might be staying in New York. According to several baseball insiders, the New York Mets have expressed interest in the second baseman.
After trading Dee Gordon to the Seattle Mariners, the Marlins were in need of a second baseman. Then they traded Giancarlo Stanton to the Yankees for Starlin Castro and other minor league players. According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, the Mets are planning on talking to the Marlins about Castro at the Winter Meetings. He is a great hitter as he had a .300 batting average in 2017. However, he does have a problem at the plate. He has a lack of patience as he walked only 4.9% of the time last season. Also, his defensive skills could be in question.
While he does have some minor issues, adding Starlin Castro would be an upgrade for the Mets. While he hopefully will not be their first plan, they shouldn’t rule it out. The New York Mets have been connected to pretty much every second baseman that is a free agent. I feel this would end up being a plan c for the Mets.
However, If I were the Miami Marlins, I wouldn’t go through with it. While it wouldn’t be that tough for this to happen, the Marlins would be fools. You already traded Stanton and Gordon. If you were to trade Castro then you would not really any leadership on this team. It is more than likely 2018 will not be a good season for the Marlins, but I would make it go from bad to worse.Follow @jon_blayne [MatchedContent]
