WWE: A Debut of Ronda Rousey would benefit the women’s division
The women’s division of WWE has seen a huge swing in competition over the last few years.
After the Attitude Era, the women wrestlers of the WWE became a sideshow and not taken seriously. Since 2010, we started seeing new people to carry the division. We are at the point now that the women had their own tournament in the Mae Young Classic. It is safe to say that the women’s division is very competitive now and it just went up a notch.
According to USA Today’s Martin Rodgers, UFC legend Ronda Rousey is very close to signing a deal with the WWE. She has made periodic appearances on WWE. She was the talk of the UFC world last year, but lose her mojo when she lost to Holly Holms at UFC 193. When she was at height of popularity, she did appear on WWE TV. In a segment for WrestleMania 31, The Rock had an in-ring segment with Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. When he said he wouldn’t hit a woman, he would go out to the crowd and get a “friend.” This friend happens to be Ronda Rousey.
I figure this news to become official in the next few weeks. As far as when she will make her debut, there’s only one logical location. It’s been reported that the WWE is planning on doing a Woman’s Royal Rumble. As we have seen with the regular Royal Rumble, there has always been debuts. In 2016, we saw the debut of AJ Styles in the Royal Rumble. Also, the Royal Rumble is usually the breeding grounds for matches at WrestleMania. There’s been a rumor of having the four horsewomen of WWE fight the four horsewomen of MMA, the Royal Rumble could be the place to plant the seeds.
While nothing is official, the addition of Ronda Rousey to the WWE will make it a tough division.Follow @jon_blayne
