SEC Championship Preview: No. 6 Georgia Bulldogs vs No. 4 Auburn Tigers
ATLANTA (Dec. 2, 2017)- The Georgia Bulldogs will take on the Auburn Tigers in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) championship at the brand new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
This marks the second time this season that these two teams have gone head-to-head. The first meeting was on Veteran’s Day and Auburn grilled Georgia by a score of 40-17. The Tigers were led by a stellar performance from their quarterback Jarret Stidham who went 16-23 with 214 yards and three touchdown passes.
Auburn enters this game directly following an upset victory against the highly-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. With that victory last week, they also clinched the division at the same time.
One player to watch for as far as Auburn goes is a defender by the name of Jeff Holland, who has recorded nine sacks this season, ranking him second overall in the SEC.
The Bulldogs come into the championship game having just faced in-state rival Georgia Tech. Georgia won that game 38-7.
Wide receiver Javon Wims is one to keep an eye on for the Bulldogs. He has got called upon more and more from this offensive unit, recording 11 catches in his past two games.
This game may be a do or die situation for Gus Malzahn. There are a lot of different experts on ESPN as well as the SEC network that believe if Auburn loses this game, coach Malzahn will be on the next plane to Arkansas to fill that coaching void left by the firing of Brett Bielema.
With Auburn ranked number four, against Georgia who is a number six, this game could shake up the standings as far as the college football playoff and the fight for the national championship. So be sure to tune in at four o’clock eastern standard time for this gridiron grudge match with everything on the line.
