New York Giants: It is the end of a quarterback era

Everyone in the city of New York has dreaded this day. The day in which the New York Giants move on from their long-time franchise QB Eli Manning. The team announced today that they are benching Manning in favor of Geno Smith. Thus, the end of an era for Big Blue.

The then San Diego Chargers drafted Eli Manning with the number 1 pick of the 2004 NFL Draft. Eli immediately stated that he did not want to play for the Chargers. So, later that night, after the Giants drafted QB Phillip Rivers, the two teams worked out a deal that would send each QB to the opposite coast.

Manning would make his debut as the starter for the New York Giants on November 21, 2004, against the Atlanta Falcons at Giants Stadium. He would go 17-37, for 162 yards, 1 TD, and 2 INTs. The Giants were 5-4 at the time. Eli would win 1 of the final 7 games. The Giants finished the season 6-10.

However, that was just the beginning of what would be an amazing Hall of Fame caliber career. Just look at the accomplishments of Manning’s tenure with the New York Giants.

Ben McAdoo Seals his fate with the New York Giants.

With this announcement today, it all but guaranteed that Ben McAdoo will not be the head coach of the New York Giants in 2018. In fact, there may need to be a complete house cleaning in the offseason. Benching Manning is one thing. Be that as it may, you do not bench him for Geno Smith. You find out what you have in the rookie Davis Webb at this time.

Whatever happens with the New York Giants from here on it is up in the air. The one thing that we do know is that one of the greatest QB eras for one team has come to end.
