WWE: Almas is getting the Jinder Mahal booking on NXT

Andrade Cien Almas has been in the WWE since 2015. He has had a storied career prior to his WWE run.Alma’s career would have him having stops in New Japan Pro Wrestling and several Mexican promotions. For a good chunk of his run, the WWE has booked him rather badly. It seemed that they weren’t given him any momentum or anything of sustain. It seemed that Almas was not going to work out in the WWE. Then enter his manager, Zelina Vega.

Since the WWE has brought her into the picture, they are given him more of a push now than ever before. He has had momentum since Takeover Brooklyn and is next in line for a shot at the NXT title. While I don’t have any doubt that Almas and McIntyre will do fine in the ring, I am more concerned about this match from a storyline perspective. After Drew McIntyre had successfully defeated Bobby Roode for the title at NXT Takeover, he was attacked by Bobby Fish, Kyle O’Reilly, and a debuting Adam Cole.

It was expected that this would be our main event storyline heading into War Games. However, the WWE booked Adam Cole in the War Games match, not in the title match. It is worth noting that Adam Cole will be getting a shot at the NXT title at the NXT Live event the night beforehand. I understand why the WWE is doing this, I just feel it would have been better if it would have been at War Games.

The reason why I say that Almas is getting the Jinder Mahal booking in NXT is quite simple.  In Jinder’s first run with the company, he was a glorified jobber. He was then released by the WWE in 2014. He would be brought back two years later on RAW. However, once he made the move to Smackdown Live, he all of a sudden got this push out of nowhere and would be holding the WWE title for most of 2017. Now I am not saying that Almas will defeat McIntyre at War Games, all I am saying is it is similar in the sense that the WWE is pushing someone right to the top with no credibility.
