CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves Week 11

CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves Football: Three Keys against Chadron State

The Colorado State University-Pueblo ThunderWolves are one game away from a possible DII Playoff Birth. A win this Saturday at Chadron State College would not only give them a playoff berth but also a piece of the RMAC Crown.  The CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves are ranked 20th by D2Football.com and 23rd by the American Football Coaches Association. So, what does the Pack have to do to keep up their current win streak? Below are the three keys for the week.

  1. Defense

The defense of the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves is what has churned this current winning streak. Especially the secondary. The Pack has 19 INTs going into the final game of the regular season. That ranks them second in DII. That secondary will need to be on its toes again this week. Chadron State is the 38th ranked passing offense in DII. They average just over 250 passing yards per game.

The ThunderWolves pass defense could be tested often as the o-line of the Eagles is pretty good. They have only given up 11 sacks on the season. Placing them second in the conference.

  1. Offense

The passing game for the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves will need to be top-notch this week. Especially the offensive line. In fact, the Eagles rank 1st in the conference with 26 sacks. For one thing, they love to get the QB. Thus, it could be a difficult day behind center for Rex Dausin and Brandon Edwards if CSC is on their game defensively.

On the other hand, the running game of the ThunderWolves can help keep that pass rush at bay. To begin with, the Pack is averaging 190 yards on the ground. I always say that balance is an offense’s best friend. Above all, Saturday could be a solid example of that.

  1. Special Teams

The CSC Eagles have a very good special teams unit. They are sitting at number 2 in the RMAC in return yards. Redshirt Freshman Place Kicker Mitchell Carter and Punter Tanner Cuda will have to use their best legs on Saturday. Keeping the ball out of the hands of the returners could be a stronger key than we think.

This is a huge game for the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves. When this four-game stretch we stated that they need to win all four in order to make the playoffs. Everything up to this point has been right there for the Pack. Take this to the house and good thing await.

Kickoff for Saturday is at Noon at Chadron State. #BackthePack!
