2017 Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf Predictions

The 3rd race up for the Breeders Cup is the Juvenile Turf race.  This is for 2-year-old Colts or Geldings, the fillies have their own race which I already previewed here.  This race is for the up and coming 2-year-olds that will be battling next year as 3-year-olds.  This field is wide open as there is no clear-cut favorite and most of these horses are live to get a victory at a good price. 14 Horses will take to the gate in this one with 2 Alternate Entries in case of a last-minute scratch.

Summary: Mendelssohn is a live longshot as his trainer has won this race three out of the last six years. Untamed Domain is a closer but is also trouble-prone and might have a shot if there is a hot pace. Sands of Mali, thrown out of his last race and his odds wouldn’t be so high worth a shot at 30-1. Catholic Boy’s last win was a Grade 3 win at Saratoga looking elsewhere. Beckford finished 2nd twice in Grade 1’s and is looking to get his first Grade 1 Victory. Masar with the absence of US Navy Flag stands alone as the horse to beat this time around. James Garfield is an import who is a closer on a track that typically favors closers as the previous Grade 2 winner.

Voting Control, who hasn’t faced any real competition might be put to the test in this one. Encumbered, who went to dirt and lost is now back on the grass and has two victories at Delmar turf course. Flameaway should love turf as he is the son of Scat Daddy, presents interesting play. Snapper Sinclair multiple styles of racing is very versatile and is improving with each start live longshot to win the race. Hemp Hemp Hurray will be stalking the pace from the outside post will see how he handles 2 turns. My Boy Jack is improving in each start and is a deep closer who should get an opportunity to close in this one. Rajasinghe is coming over following an awesome spring and summer meet in his last race as he finished second to last and will need to find his form from the summer in order to pull the shocking upset.
