CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves Week 9

CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves Football: Three Keys against WSU

When you watch the Colorado State University-Pueblo ThunderWolves Football team, you can see something special. This team plays together and comes together when the chips are down. Going into last week’s game against BHSU, they knew they needed a win. That they got and in a big way. This is week is the same thing. The CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves are in another must-win situation going into Saturday’s game. What do they need to do win and stay in the DII playoff hunt? Here are the three keys.

  1. Defense, Defense, Defense

This side of the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves showed in a huge way last week. They are going to need another performance like this week against the Western State University Colorado Mountaineers. WSU currently has the 149 ranked rushing attack (98 YPG), 133 ranked passing attack (161 YPG), and the 161 ranked scoring offense (13 PPG). While the numbers are not impressive, the ThunderWolves are well aware of what happens when you sleep on an opponent. Go hard or Go home, IE – does not make the playoffs.

  1. Feed the Beast

Marché Dennard has been just that for the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves. Dennard is by far the Pack’s leading rusher with 710 yards. He has scored 12 TDs along the way. Dennard is averaging just under 90 yards per game. He has a nose for the end zone. When the pack offense gets the ball into the red zone Dennard is all but certain to find the end zone. Keep feeding the beast to set up the rest of the offense.

  1. Passing Game

Last week the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves passing game finally got into a bit of a rhythm. Senior QB Rex Dausin was able to get some much-needed time even though the game was well in hand. Head Coach John Wristen decided to put his starter back in during the blowout to try to get him some work. If Dausin and the rest of the passing game can stay on that beat they should have an easy time against WSU.

After their victory over BHSU, the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves re-entered the top 25. They are now the 24th ranked team in AFCA Coaches Poll. The win also allowed them to rise in the D2football.com poll to 22nd. Another win this week should allow for a continued rise.

Kickoff this week is at 2 pm MST @ the ThunderBowl. This is the final home game of the season. The team will be honoring their seniors. It is also Military Appreciation Day.
