New York Giants: Five Free Agent Wide Receiver Targets

When the season started, many picked the New York Giants as one of the best teams in the league. I, myself, even picked them to win the NFC East and represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. After five weeks of the NFL Season, the Giants are probably the worst team in football. Things got worse too. They lost four WRs in their week five loss. Two of those for the season, Odell Beckham Jr and Brandon Marshall. So, what are the Giants to do? Here are five free agent wide receivers that the New York Giants should look at signing for the rest of the season.

Note: These are not in any particular order.

  1. Vincent Jackson

Jackson is a large target that would be excellent in the red zone. He would also bring a veteran presence to what is now a young receiving corps. For his career, Jackson has 540 reception on 1035 targets. That is a catch percentage of 53%. He also 9,080 yards and 57 TDs. Jackson needs to be a logical target that is on the radar of the Giants front office. He would give the Giants a very viable option at a position of need.

  1. Victor Cruz

Victor Cruz in the obvious choice here. He knows the system, he gives Eli Manning a true comfort blanket and he is healthy. While he is not as explosive as he was in his prime, he gives the New York Giants an excellent option.

This really is a no-brainer for the Giants. As soon as OBJ and B-Marsh went down, Jerry Reese should have been on the phone with Cruz’s reps.

  1. Anquan Boldin

Boldin would be another veteran WR that the Giants could bring in to strengthen their corps. Boldin has recently stated that he was hanging up the cleats. However, coming into a situation in which he may see significant playing, could entice him to reconsider. This would give Manning a sure-handed possession receiver to throw to.

  1. Eddie Royal

Royal is a speedy wide receiver that again, would bring a veteran presence to the New York Giants. He would also help fill the void left by Dwayne Harris on special teams. Royal has 131 returns for just over 1,300 yards. This includes both punts and kickoffs. He also has four-combined return TDs. Bringing in a player like Royal would help fill two voids for the Giants left by injury.

  1. Rueben Randle

Randall is another familiar face for the New York Giants. He has been in and out of the system there. While he is not a serious weapon, he brings stability to a position that is clearly struggling this season. He has also had a good report with Eli Manning during his past stints with the team.

While none of these WRs will strike fear into the opposing defense, they offer stability. The New York Giants are in need of stability in this position right now. A strong veteran presence should give that and more. One or more of these players should truly be on the radar for the New York Giants.
