Thanks To A Pair Of Talented Players, The Miami Hurricanes Could Be A Favorite In The ACC

Jim Larranaga has the Miami Hurricanes on the path to the NCAA Tournament. It wouldn’t be a surprise if the Canes win the ACC, they are that good. To do that, a lot of the pressure will fall on Sophomore, Bruce Brown, and Freshman, Lonnie Walker, the schools best recruits in their history.

Brown, a five-star recruit from Vermont, was a 2016 Jordan Brand Classic All-American. Walker, a five-star recruit from Reading, Pennsylvania, was a McDonald’s All-American. Both have the pedigree of top NCAA players and will lead the Hurricanes to a potential Final Four this season.

After a stellar Freshman year, which consisted of 11.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists, Brown is one of the Nation’s top returning players. His ability to get to the basket and finish is one of the reasons NBA scouts are so enamored with him.

Walker is the missing piece to a Hurricanes backcourt which not only features Brown but Senior, Ja’Quan Newton as well. His presence on the team is going to spark Miami. The only issue with Walker is the status of his recovery from a torn meniscus. All indications point to him returning for the teams opening night game.

Despite the injury to Walker, Newton, a 13.5 ppg scorer, is dead set on turning the reigns over to Brown and potentially Walker this season. He spoke to Alan Rubenstein of Canes Warning about why he thinks Brown is the leader of the Miami Hurricanes roster.

“This is Bruce’s year now…He had that fantastic year so now bringing that momentum into his sophomore year he’s been through it already. He’s at an elite level.”

As for Walker, he’s going to need to get healthy before the claim can be made as his team. It shouldn’t be too much of a task for him, as he was considered one of the best guards in the country. When he gets to full strength, it’s going to be Showtime in Coral Gables.

Both Brown and Walker are considered 1st round NBA prospects. For Miami to have that on their roster is quite special. Larranaga has done an excellent job recruiting, and the payoff should be huge. While Miami might not be the favorite in the ACC, they most definitely should be considered contenders.
